Linux in Retail & Hospitality What Every Retailer Should Know. Microsoft's view on Linux.

Yes, it is true, us toons got fed up with these Microsoft people. We may be toons, but we are not as looney as they seem to believe we are.

All they want is our hard earned cash and they think they own our computers. But not with us! So we went and surfed all over the net in search for an alternative. And guess what? We found one that fits us just right. It's free, fast and furious.

Moreover it does not think it owns our computers and does whatever it wants. This one actually lets us be in control. So bear with us and we'll let you in on our little secret.

On this site you can find useful FreeBSD related links as well as a helpdesk where we have done our best to compile as many answers to frequently asked questions, tutorials, tips and tricks as we could find to make your installing and running FreeBSD as easy as possible.

Please feel free to leave a comment in our guestbook if you have any comment or suggestion. The continued expanse of this site depends not just on the daemon but on all of us.

So you just invested in buying the latest and fastest hardware, oodles of memory and harddisk space just so you can run the last versions of Windows and Office? Good for you. Now what did you do with your old system? If you still have it sitting around then you are in luck. FreeBSD is not half as greedy and chances are it will just run fine on your older computer. So you get two for the price of one. And even if you got rid of your old computer, it is not hard to setup FreeBSD so it will happily coexist with Windows and at boot time you can decide which you want to run.

And those who are worried about that little red FreeBSD guy...

"Many people equate the word 'daemon' with the word 'demon,' implying some kind of Satanic connection between UNIX and the underworld. This is an egregious misunderstanding. 'Daemon' is actually a much older form of 'demon'; daemons have no particular bias towards good or evil, but rather serve to help define a person's character or personality. The ancient Greeks' concept of a 'personal daemon' was similar to the modern concept of a 'guardian angel' --- 'eudaemonia' is the state of being helped or protected by a kindly spirit. As a rule, UNIX systems seem to be infested with both daemons and demons." (p403)
